On July 30th we joined thousands of RN’s and other community allies across the country in a National Day of Action around Medicare’s 50th anniversary. Rn’s called for the expansion of the program and rallied support around HR 676 which would expand the program to the entire population thus creating a single-payer systems. While there I was able to meet many nurses and even a founding member of MNA. We shared our thoughts on the importance of the bill, and why there should be universal medicare. We rallied with signs and walked the streets of Detroit in attempt to spread the word about Medicare for everyone. We then met at a church where many people including Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and even patients shared their thoughts on the need for medicare. The day wrapped up with a panel of discussion and lunch. I learned many things from attending this event, and I am proud to say that i am an advocate for universal medicare!
